Hi everyone! This time I was invited to review Women's Lazy Days Pants and Scrubs. Pattern by Pickle Toes Patterns. First of all, let me tell you what this pattern offer when you purchase the pdf pattern: Sizes: 0 - 30 Length: 7 different length Hem: 5 options Pockets: 3 pocket types Elastic waist Fabrics recommendation: Stretch twill, stretch poplin, stretch denim or a stable knit such as French terry, Ponte, or interlock. I finally brave enough to cut this stretch off white denim that have been in my stash for a few years now. I bought it in Asok, Bangkok. Originally, I see a white denim style for me when I bought this fabric but I need a good recommendation of jeans design pattern that have a clear instruction on how to construct the fly front. Do you have a recommendation? Anyway, it has been awhile since my last sewing for my eldest daughter, so I thought, why not for this review, I make it in her size? I made it in size 8, but I think next time I will size down it because the butt area looks a little baggy and the front is a little puffy. I wish I know how to alter and manipulate the pattern to fit her body. I will learn the technique one day. One day! :) I really enjoy every top stitching for the front pockets, back pockets and the side seams especially when they are perfect! And I also add a little color to the faux tab and I add a wooden button on each side. Just love it! There were some oooo and aaaawwww after every completed step! Haha... I really love capri style and so I forced my style into my girl *evil laugh (nah, she was just agree to anything that I want to make for her. Sweet girl she is!) I will be making a new pair of Lazy Days pants for myself next, mmm...maybe in a batik sarong fabrics. Yay! I highly recommended this pattern for your daily wear or summer days pants or even for your PJ's! Just so comfy, well, at least that was my daughter said! ;) Let me tell you how comfy it is when I have mine! :D Love, Liza

Welcome to the Spring Blog Tour with Pickle Toes Patterns! For this blog tour I will be reviewing the Night Night Gown.
I personally think this is a fairly easy design to sew and it can be a daily wear gown if you use the right fabric! My girl really love it!
For this design, the recommendation for the fabrics are cotton and cotton blends, flannel, seersucker or stable knit such as French terry, Ponte or interlock, and I use a stripes Japanese linen instead and a matching green corduroy for the bodice. The design have 3 sleeves option - flutter sleeves, short sleeves and long sleeves. And 2 dress length, which are the tea length and floor length. I know my girl is suitable wearing the tea length and unfortunately, I do not have enough matching fabric to add the ruffles. Aww... PTP instructions always have some tips on how to sew with knits, and if you do not have a serger, you can always use some stitches on your portable sewing machine, PTP covers that too!
You know we are learning new thing everyday, right? Although I have been sewing for years now, I have no idea what is the FOE (fold over elastic) and I do not have a matching rib knit/ cotton lycra that is used in this design for the neckline and armbands, but I was lucky that the neck holes is large enough for my girl to put her head through, so I finished the neck hole with similar Japanese linen cut on bias.
But I will surely dig some information on Fold on Elastic because I am pretty sure they don't sell it here :( The PTP have layering option which save you a lot of headache and papers too! lol and assembling the patterns is easy.
The Night Night Gown have so many mix match option and comes in size 6 months up to 20 years! Woww wow...how cool is that, you save a lot of *ka-ching with just one pattern!

And I really love the simplicity of the design, so I decided to make one for Adra. The floral fabric was in my stash for umm...5 years? So, I need to use it before it gets ruin. Originally, I bought the fabric for my bag making business, but the fabric is too soft and I was not into garment making back then. So when I saw the Flora Dress, I knew this is the perfect time to use the beautiful swiss cotton, and coincidentally...it is Spring soon! (Although there is no such thing as Spring in Malaysia hahaha!) Adra was not so happy with the dress at first, not that she hate it...it is just because she was into PINK that whole two weeks *sigh And now that she is all back to normal again, haha...I can now show you the dress I have made. As you can see, there are side panel on the front of the dress, I use red corduroy to match the floral fabric. Oh my goodness, she is just too active and I had to snap hundreds of photos just to get a decent picture ( sometimes, I just gave up and use whatever there is in my camera :D
I am currently making the Seth Bag from ithinksew, can't wait to review the pattern for you! Don't get me wrong, it is not a paid review, I actually paid for the design for my personal use. I guess I am still a bag maker at heart, although I really enjoy sewing garment for my girls, bag making is still my first love! Seth Bag is currently on sale until 21st April, 2018. Don't wait for my review if you need to buy it while it is still on sale! The $5.10 is just so irresistible lol I was invited to join Pickle Toes Pattern Brand Rep. Team to make the Black Raspberry Dress/Tunic. This pattern is familiar to me because I have made a similar design from a Japanese sewing book, the only different is that PTP has shoulder closures, while the pattern from the Japanese book is a pull over style with no closure, so, with no closure means, the armholes is slightly larger than PTP's Black Raspberry. I had trouble with Black Raspberry the moment I was selected as one of their brand representative member! First, their message went to my Request Message on FB (which I didn't get any notification until it was 2 days after the closing date for the call, and by Monday (a day before the deadline) I was having trouble sewing the pattern! Ugh! Initially, I was planning to make matching dress for Adra and her big sister, since they get along well together now lol. I was in a hurry and I wasn't my sewing self, I was clumsy, I was panic, I was not being professional at all! All I know I needed to complete this dress before the deadline! And both dress was a mess! A huge one! *SOB So I thought it was the pattern fault, and was thinking how am I going to give a positive review and promote this pattern if there is so much error?? I was frustrated and discarded both dress without hesitated, went to the kitchen and made myself a cup of coffee. I know I needed to calm down. Finished my coffee, I re-read the instructions and it was all my fault *DUH I didn't read the instructions thoroughly and I misread and skipped some step while making the the two dresses. It was a relieved! The instruction was well written, even though the steps are kind of in a different sequence if to compare with the similar pattern in the Japanese Sewing Book design that I have, but you will complete the dress eventually! -REMINDER- JUST READ THE INSTRUCTION THOROUGHLY AND READ IT A FEW MORE TIMES BEFORE YOU START SEWING! LOL So okay, back to the story, I searched for another fabric to cut. And since I do not have more time, I just cut one size for my 8 years old girl in this royal blue Thai cotton with Thai silk design print in gold. Enaydia is 8 years old but her chest measurement falls into size 6 in PTP design, even though I was worried at first especially the armholes, but once the tunic (yes, I did tunic length) is done, everything was perfect for her! Black Raspberry can be made in woven or knit fabrics and there is some tips on how to find suitable knit fabrics for the design. It also has 2 lengths option - dress or tunic, it has rounded yoke with shoulder closures and the design can be made in size 2 - 16! You can plan matching dresses for all your girls! :D Did I mention it also has side seam pockets?? Yay! Although this is not my best sewing (I know I can do better if I have load of time! lol) Overall, this is a nice design and perfect for summer, and if you know how to draft a bigger armholes, this dress is perfect for layering too! Omit the pockets and you can even finish it faster, but sewing the rounded yoke is a bit tricky and you need to go slow if you want to have a perfect rounded end. Oh, here, my fabric is a little stiff. I think a fabric with nice drape will look amazing for the pattern. And I think the only thing I would change is the width of the armholes binding, it is just too wide for my liking. So, if you find my review is good enough, head over to Pickle and Toe Pattern to get your Black Raspberry! |
