Hi everyone. I am so excited to share with you all my Easter Blog Tour with Handmaiden's Cottage. I made the Patchwork Dress! :)
I really, really love this sweet pattern because it has a simplicity design and what best is that I can use up all my fabric stash. And you know what, there is even a tutorial on how to add hand embroidered design on few squares of you want to make the dress extra special *wink For this dress, I chose a Korea cotton in pastel colour for the body with giraffe design ( I wish I have a bunny design though, so it will be perfect for the Easter theme!) and went really crazy with the patchwork fabrics haha...I tried to create a colour tone effect (did I nailed it??) The patchwork dress comes with 2 option of sleeves - 3/4 length circular flounce with elastic band and short sleeves also with an elastic band. And since it always hot here, I always pair my daughters's dresses with a legging to cover their legs and I love the decent look on my girls. Oh, and that is the very reason why I omitted a row of patchwork strip to just 3 rows instead of 4 rows to shorten it a little bit. This dress is more like a mix of raglan and peasant design, and with the patchwork, I thought it is going to take forever to finish the dress (I was panic!) but instead it was a fairly quick sew - I was amazed! I added some decorative stitches to the patchwork to add a special detail on the dress and I love it!
The original design has a removable sash, but I decided to sew the sash on the dress because my little cheeky girl is more than capable to lose the sash and use it to play with our pet kitty lol. But, instead of using a fabric sash, I use a beautiful 3.5cm wide lace trim. It just added a feminine touch to the dress, don't you think??
This is such a beautiful and a quick sew design, and I had so much fun mix matching the patchwork skirt and I can see a few more Patchwork dresses for Adra and her big sister, and couldn't see a better way to use up all my fabric stash. Yay! Thank you Lynn and Lori for having me. Of course a blog tour is not a blog tour without a discount! Hooray! Their sewing patterns are on sale during the blog tour only!! This is my first time joining the Secret Valentine Exchange (2018) host by Ute and Sanae.
I love making present for others! And since I didn't take any orders for my bag making business yet, I had a lot of time to make a gift for my mystery Valentine partner in UK. I am not sure if the gift will reach her on time but I do hope she will like it ^^ This little bag is my own design named Petite Safirra and a perfect size to carry for your daily chores and it can be an organizer for larger bag such as tote bag! I use red corduroy, with cotton lining and add that little patchwork for the flap pockets. I personally love this version. My first make of the year, Momo Mod Bag by Sew Business. The Momo Mod Bag is a medium size handbag featuring contrasting front panel (which I love most!) with tab closure and adjustable strap - so you can wear it cross body or as a shoulder bag. As a mother with small kiddo, this bag is easy one handed access, definitely a bonus for me! For this test version, I use a nice green corduroy, quilted light brown cotton and an animal print linen. The pattern is on sale with 20% off until Thursday (8th February), no code needed. A perfect design for confident beginner to advance bag maker! Here is a link to buy the pattern : Momo Mod Bag All these years, I have been sewing like mad without following my plan. Yep, I am an organize person, but I got distracted really, really, really bad with all those new and fabulous apparel sewing patterns lol. Last year I applied as pattern tester for various indie designers to learn more about apparel sewing. I had so much fun and got to know some designers that make beautiful and unusual/unique cutting (design) and really perfect for my style. This year, I want to plan out my sewing journey. I want to sew clothes that I am actually going to wear instead of wasting fabrics on clothes that I won't wear. I was inspired by all those #2018makenine on Instagram and couldn't resist to make my own too. And the most important is I need to follow what I had plan for 2018. Hahaha... Here are my 2018 Make Nine, although I found more designs that I really want to try in my Japanese and Thai pattern books (facepalm!) yasmeen skirtOh, I love everything about Yasmeen skirt by Just Patterns. The construction, the pattern and the look! Oh, so in love! This skirt design is the reason why I want to start wearing skirts! (I am a pants person, by the way). This inspiration caught (I think it is from Banana Republic, pinterest) my attention and this definitely the way I am going to wear my Yasmeen skirt, what do you think? :) tamarack jacketI need jackets in my life. I have a hooded jacket, and a windbreaker. Both used to be my style back when I was in my twenties, and I am in denial all these while lol! So this year, I need to start upgrading my wardrobe, a more of thirties thingy (This year is going to be classy and simplicity) So, this Tamarack jacket by Grainline Studio is simple and perfect for me, maybe I need to lengthen it a bit to fully cover my bum-bum! Ha! alder shirtdressLooking at the Alder shirtdress on the Grainline Studio website, hmm...I must say, it did not please me at all! But, upon seeing the Alder shirtdress version by Melissa, I fall in love with the design. Her choice of fabric really pop up the design and it really suits her beautifully. SO, I am going to give this pattern a try, though I do not wear sleeveless outside, maybe I can pair it with my jacket(s) and legging. rumana coatOh, I hope I did not go overboard with planning two outer wear this year, but when I enter the SewMyStyle2018, I just cannot resist it when I see this blue linen version of Rumana Coat, By Hand London, I think linen is perfect for Malaysia weather which is hot and humid, this is definitely going to replace my hooded sweater. lander pantsI always curious on how to sew the pants with zipper or button fly. So, the Lander pants by True Bias is a perfect pattern to learn how to do it, besides, it got so much positive reviews from all the sewists, and that is a bonus point before considered on buying the pattern. fringe blouseFringe dresses, design by Chalk and Notch keep on appearing on my Instagram feed and I can't just ignore all those beautiful versions. If I shorten it a bit, I can wear it with my jeans and culottes and with the original length, I can wear it with legging! What do you think? arielle & axel skirtLately, I feel the need to wear something sexy (is this the in denial of getting old sindrome?) lol. I gained weight and after a car accident end of last year, and until the time I am writing this post, I have been resting from my yoga routine due to the pain on my right rib. It is getting better now, I hope. In order to successfully wear these skirts, I really need to lose some weight especially on my tummy and thigh, and calf...ughhh...! Okay, back to the skirts. I really love the Arielle skirt by Tilly Buttons. I need to lengthen it to the center calf length (is that a maxi length??) and do you think it is possible to lengthen it to maxi length with this style? Next is the Axel skirt by Megan Nielsen Patterns. Look so sexy don't you think? Aha... I need this at home, I kinda want to wear it at home with my sleeveless top and my Stella top. inspirational stand collar shirtdressesLast but not least, are these elegant stand collar shirt dresses. I am so in love with the style although I have no idea where and how am I going to wear these lol. These are pictures that I saved from pinterest and instagram. Do you know which patterns that have similar design or any pattern that I can hack into this design? I did browse patterns at Burdastyle.com, but I just couldn't find anything near to these designs.
Wow, this is my longest post ever! Until next post, hope you enjoy reading my posts, although I know my English is not that good, but I do hope you can understand my struggle hahaha...! Take care my friends and stay safe! Love, Liza |
